Sustainable & honest
Wool from sheep that have not suffered
Our clothes are made from mulesing-free wool. Mulesing is a horrific method in which the sheep's hide is cut away, creating a wound. This is less attractive to flies. Mulesing is banned in many countries, but unfortunately, it still occurs in Australia. When purchasing our wool, it is a strict requirement that it is mulesing-free. We have the supplier certify that the wool is mulesing-free for each batch. The wool is purchased from a major producer who also supplies wool to other brands that produce merino wool products and guarantees mulesing-free wool.
Fair wages for everyone in the chain.
The clothing industry is known for its many abuses. Child labor, underpaid workers, and excessively long hours are common. We're small and don't have the ability to monitor conditions on-site. That's why we've chosen a manufacturer that is AMFOR BSCI certified. This certification ensures good working conditions and fair wages, but also addresses environmental impact.
Contact with the manufacturer is excellent, and we regularly receive videos and photos from the sewing workshop where the products are made. This is a large manufacturer that produces for several major brands. These brands prioritize sustainability and ethical practices and have the capacity to conduct on-site inspections. The fact that these major brands also choose this manufacturer gives us confidence that everything is in order.
Small batches, no collections
Overproduction is a major problem in the clothing industry. Before the end of the season, everything is sold out at rock-bottom prices to make room for a new collection. Unsold items end up at outlets or end up in a (waste) pile.
Our approach means there's no overproduction or end-of-season sales. Production is in very small quantities. The clothes are basic and can be worn year-round.
Our working method:
- We buy wool and have it woven into fabric
- The fabric is dyed and stored in the sewing workshop. We have 20kg of each color made, which is approximately enough for 200 garments.
- We have a base of products produced and keep them in stock for sale.
- When we see that products sell quickly, we have new products made from this material and replenish our stock.
- Running out of fabric? We'll have the same color made again or choose a different color.
- No overstock and no sales necessary!
As little waste as possible
We strive to minimize waste, especially plastic waste. Unfortunately, we can't completely avoid plastic yet. Clothing is almost always packaged in plastic for transport to protect it. While many clothing brands receive each garment in separate (plastic) packaging, we're different. Garments are packaged together as much as possible to minimize plastic use. We don't use plastic when shipping to our customers (the round sticker is made of bio-plastic).
We try to reuse the same packaging as the products we receive from resellers whenever possible. This approach ensures that the amount of waste ending up in residual waste is minimal. We also ask our suppliers to use recycled materials as much as possible. Our clothing supplier is RSC-certified.
Production close to the source
Transporting raw materials is much less efficient than transporting finished products. Much merino wool comes from New Zealand and Australia, but South America and Eastern Europe are also major suppliers of merino wool. While some other wool clothing brands import raw materials and distribute their production processes across different countries (weaving, dyeing, cutting, sewing, packaging), we allow the process to take place close to the source, from wool to finished product. We have no intermediaries in the process; the products are delivered directly to us from production.
We've consciously chosen to source Australian and New Zealand merino wool from Asia. It would be more sustainable to produce it locally, but then the products would be far too expensive. We're convinced this can be done responsibly in Asia.
Another portion of the production takes place in Lithuania. This wool comes from local sheep and is processed from wool to finished product in Lithuania.
Clothes made to last
Although wool is a delicate product, we strive to develop our products so that they can last for generations. Delicate areas are reinforced with felt or extra fabric. Products are extensively tested before being included in our range.
