Washing woolen clothes

Wool products should be washed carefully due to the risk of shrinkage. Therefore, follow the washing instructions below to keep your wool products in the best possible condition so they can last for generations!

Our wool clothing can be washed by hand or in the washing machine. Keep in mind that you'll need a reasonably modern washing machine with a setting specifically for wool.

Woolen clothes in the washing machine

If you have a modern washing machine, washing wool in the washing machine is the safest option. The washing machine allows for a gradual temperature change and the detergent supply is also gradual. The washing machine doesn't wring out the wool, but rather folds it.

  1. Only wash woolen products with other woolen products.
  2. Make sure there isn't too much wool in the washing machine. One to two kilograms is the maximum. Wool needs space in the washing machine to rotate.
  3. Wash wool in the washing machine on a special wool program.
  4. Use a special natural wool detergent.
  5. Never use fabric softener, bleach or synthetic detergent.
  6. Spin the wool at a low speed (600 rpm)
  7. Do not put merino wool in the dryer but let it air dry flat.
  8. You could iron merino wool at a low temperature, but it's not really necessary. Merino wool is naturally virtually wrinkle-free.

Hand wash woolen clothes

Hand washing can easily cause kneading, which can damage the fibers. Therefore, always be careful when washing by hand.

  1. Don't wash your wool warmer than 30 degrees Celsius, as this can cause it to shrink. You can use a baby bath thermometer to monitor the temperature.
  2. Make sure the temperature difference is gradual.
  3. Use a natural wool detergent, but not too much, as it will be difficult to wash it out again.
  4. Don't wring or rub the wool, as this will damage the fabric. It's best to squeeze the wool to keep the garment looking nice.
  5. Rinse out the detergent with water of the same (cold/lukewarm) temperature.
  6. Do not put merino wool in the dryer but let it air dry flat.
  7. You could iron merino wool at a low temperature, but it's not really necessary. Merino wool is naturally virtually wrinkle-free.
