Wool itchy? Not at all. Traditionally, wool clothing may have had a difficult image, but these days, nothing could be further from the truth. Lille Barn wool clothes are made of soft, pure merino wool. And besides, using wool (or silk) clothing has many wonderful benefits, but why is this material so wonderful for your little one? We'd love to tell you more.

Wool is heat regulating

Too hot or too cold? Jacket or no jacket? Newborn babies can't yet properly regulate their body temperature independently. Choosing the right clothing can be quite challenging. Wool has a thermoregulatory function and adapts to weather conditions. Wool's fibers are crimped, which allows them to trap air effectively. This stores heat and can easily be transferred to your baby on cold days. Conversely, heat doesn't get trapped under wool, allowing it to easily escape into the air. This has a cooling effect on warmer days and reduces the risk of heat buildup or overheating. In short, woolens keep your baby's temperature perfectly balanced in all seasons.

Wool ensures an optimal moisture balance

Babies sweat even more than adults, making it important to wear breathable clothing. Synthetic fibers are generally less effective at wicking away moisture than natural materials like cotton, wool, and silk. Wool is antibacterial and therefore a good choice—especially for very delicate and sensitive baby skin.

With wool less washes

Did you know that wool is self-cleaning and less likely to absorb odors? Wool contains lanolin. This protective, oily wax keeps sheep dry and inhibits bacteria—bacteria that otherwise cause sweat odor. These properties also ensure that stains can often be easily removed with a damp cloth. Airing it out overnight is often sufficient, but wool can also be machine-washed on a gentle cycle.

An overflowing dresser with piles of sale baby clothes. And how quickly babies grow! Many parents will eventually discover that a lot of clothes have gone unworn, or have quickly faded or become dirty. Such a shame! The relatively higher price of yarn makes you buy more consciously, and therefore minimalistically. And because yarn lasts longer, you're making your child's baby clothes more sustainable. So: fewer items, more often, and for longer.

Wool is environmentally and animal friendly

Wool is biodegradable because it's a natural product. Furthermore, the production of wool baby clothes has minimal environmental impact and is animal-friendly.

High quality wool

If you care for woolens with a little love, these items often last a long time. This is due to the crimped structure of the fibers, which makes wool naturally elastic and resilient. It stretches and returns to its original shape. You'll notice that your wool (or silk) clothes will last longer, even as your baby grows so quickly! And because of their high quality, woolens can always be worn for a second, or even a third, cycle after use.

Wool is antibacterial and healing

Wool pads are perfect for sensitive skin and for anyone with asthma, allergies, or sensitivities. Did you know that wool also has a healing effect? Babies who sleep on a sheepskin or lambskin pad for the first three months of their lives have a significantly lower risk of asthma later in life. You can also use individual wool pads (heilwolle) for cracked nipples, pressure sores, or sore bottoms. A small piece in the diaper or under your bra promotes the skin's healing capacity, thanks in part to the lanolin.

Dreamily soft and secure

It's a matter of taste, but we can't resist a baby wrapped in wool. Wool is lightweight and has a dreamy, cuddly soft feel. From an anthroposophical perspective, wool and silk clothing are also seen as providing extra protection against external influences. Wool and silk (under)clothing can help reduce the intensity of stimuli for your little one. A sheepskin (or) can also promote baby's sleep, thanks to the enveloping effect it provides.
